LEEDO’s Food Support Activity
Overview:
As part of its comprehensive support for street-connected children, survivors of abuse, and vulnerable women, LEEDO runs a Food Support Program to ensure that basic nutritional needs are met as a foundation for rehabilitation and development. Adequate nutrition is essential not only for survival but also for the physical and cognitive growth of children, enabling them to participate in education and other empowerment initiatives.
Purpose and Objectives:
The Food Support Activity aims to:
Provide nutritious daily meals to children living in LEEDO’s Transitional Shelter (SETU BANDHAN) and long-term care facilities.
Address food insecurity among street-connected children and families in high-risk urban areas.
Support emergency feeding during crises such as natural disasters, pandemics, or sudden displacements.
Promote awareness about hygiene, nutrition, and safe food practices through community sessions and workshops.
Key Components:
Daily Meals at Shelters:
Children residing at LEEDO’s shelters receive three balanced meals a day. Meals are designed to meet the dietary needs of growing children and are regularly monitored for hygiene and nutrition.Street Outreach Feeding:
Through its Mobile School and outreach teams, LEEDO provides cooked meals or nutritious snacks to street children in key urban locations such as Kamalapur Railway Station, Gabtoli, Sadarghat, and Tejgaon. These efforts not only address hunger but also serve as an entry point to build trust and connect children to further services.Emergency Relief Food Distribution:
During national emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic, LEEDO has distributed food and hygiene kits to thousands of affected families, prioritizing those with children, the elderly, and the disabled. This emergency support reduces vulnerability and prevents negative coping strategies like child labor or begging.Community-Based Support:
In partnership with donors and volunteers, LEEDO also supports underprivileged families with dry rations and food baskets, particularly in slums and disaster-prone areas. This not only sustains households but also contributes to family-based reintegration efforts for rescued children.
Impact:
Hundreds of children receive regular meals in LEEDO shelters.
Thousands have benefitted from food distribution during emergencies.
Food support has become a gateway to wider rehabilitation services, including education, counseling, and health care.
Alignment with LEEDO’s Mission:
LEEDO’s Food Support Activity is more than a feeding initiative—it is an act of dignity restoration. By ensuring no child or vulnerable woman goes hungry, LEEDO reinforces its commitment to protecting rights, restoring hope, and creating pathways out of poverty and exploitation.
