Founder and Executive Director
Forhad Hossain is a prominent human rights activist and social worker in Bangladesh, known for his lifelong dedication to protecting vulnerable children. His journey began in the late 1980s, inspired by the late Ms. Jubeda Khanam of Bangladesh Shishu Academy. Witnessing the struggles of street-connected children, he founded Chinnomul Shishu Kishore Sangstha (CSKS) in 1990, rescuing children, providing non-formal education, and advocating for child rights and legal reforms.
In 2000, he established Local Education & Economic Development Organization (LEEDO), which became fully operational in 2010. LEEDO focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating street-connected and migrant children affected by abuse, poverty, and displacement. As Executive Director, Forhad pioneered the innovative “Schools Under the Sky” and launched Bangladesh’s first Mobile School, making education accessible for children in street situations.
He created SETU Bandhan, a transitional shelter for rescued children, and later founded LEEDO Peace Home, a long-term residential facility for 75 children, including 22 with disabilities. Peace Home provides education, healthcare, and a nurturing family-like environment.
Under his leadership, LEEDO children represented Bangladesh at the Street Child Cricket World Cup 2019 in the UK and the Street Child Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar. During the Rohingya refugee crisis, he led relief initiatives in Cox’s Bazar and launched a Child Sponsorship Program to support slum and orphaned children.
Mr Forhad has also rehabilitated street families with housing and livelihoods. He actively collaborates with national and international rights organisations and contributes to policy reforms, including the Children Act 2013.
Widely recognized for his work, Forhad Hossain continues to be a fearless advocate for children’s rights, transforming lives and building pathways to hope and dignity for thousands.
