LEEDO envisions a beautiful and equitable Bangladesh, free from street children and discrimination. Realizing this dream requires everyone's cooperation.
Dhaka: A Megacity of Resilience and Growth
Dhaka, the vibrant heart and thriving capital of Bangladesh, stands as a testament to resilience and potential in a country rich with culture and history. With an estimated metropolitan population of about 21 million people as of 2020, Dhaka represents approximately 11% of the nation’s total population (Data Source: United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) March 2024). This remarkable figure underscores the city’s vital role as a dynamic center of economic, cultural, and social progress.
Recognized as the second-largest city in South Asia, just behind Mumbai, and ranked seventh in the world, Dhaka embodies both the challenges and opportunities that come with rapid growth. Embrace the spirit of this bustling metropolis as it paves the way for innovative solutions and a brighter future for its residents and urban planners alike.

The Plight of Bangladesh's Street Children
The city’s day begins with hustle and bustle. New people are constantly being added to the city’s total population. People flock to Dhaka hoping for a better life or at least to find two meals a day. Various organizations report that there are approximately 1.3 million street children in Bangladesh, although this figure is quite old and there are differing opinions on it. How can the country progress if it fails to improve the lives of this large segment of its population?
Helping Today. Helping Tommorow
These children shouldn’t be a burden on the country; they need to be transformed into its assets. Local Education and Economic Development Organization (LEEDO), a non-profit non-governmental development organization, has been working tirelessly since 2000 to improve the lives of these street-dwelling children. LEEDO’s work is based on four core principles, the 4 Rs (Rescue, Reffer, Reintegration & Rebuild the Lives).

Hamza Choudhury an Ambassador of LEEDO
Hamza Choudhury said in his Instagram page
I’m proud to announce my new Ambassador role for LEEDO’s work in Dhaka and Patron of UK charity Friends of Street Children Bangladesh
There are things bigger and more important than football – and this is one of them. This sits very close to my heart, and I truly believe this project can make a big change.
As a Muslim, a father, and a Bangladeshi, it’s my duty – our duty – to start making a change to this situation that affects hundreds of thousands of children in our country and across the world.
I walked into LEEDO not really knowing what to expect, but the love and happiness I was greeted with was overwhelming. These kids have lived through the biggest heartbreaks and toughest times, yet they welcomed me with warm smiles and hugs.
It was truly another life lesson: with love, care, and attention, everyone can have a fresh start and rediscover a life they deserve to live. This is a testament to the people at LEEDO and all the incredible work they’ve done.
I’m so proud and honoured to be an Ambassador for LEEDO – and together we can all make a change.
