Who We Are

The Story Behind LEEDO

Local Education and Economic Development Organization (LEEDO) is a not for profit, volunteer-based organization founded in 2000 and fully operational since 2010. Established by social and human rights activists. LEEDO works to protect the lives of vulnerable street connected children & youth in Bangladesh.

Dhaka Challenge

Dhaka : A Megacity of 21 Million

Dhaka, the vibrant heart and thriving capital of Bangladesh, stands as a testament to resilience and potential in a country rich with culture and history. With an estimated metropolitan population of about 21 million people as of 2020, Dhaka represents approximately 11% of the nation’s total population (Data Source: United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) March 2024). This remarkable figure underscores the city’s vital role as a dynamic center of economic, cultural, and social progress.

Yet behind this progress, nearly 1.3 million children live on the streets, facing violence, exploitation, and survival struggles. These children shouldn’t be a burden on the country; they need to be transformed into valuable contributors to society. That’s where LEEDO steps in.

The Plight of Bangladesh's Street Children

According to a UNICEF report (2024), over 3.4 million street children in Bangladesh live without parental care, lacking shelter, education, healthcare, and protection. Many survive through begging or informal work, leaving them vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions.

Ambassador Of LEEDO

Hamza Choudhury

"I walked into LEEDO not really knowing what to expect, but the love and happiness I was greeted with was overwhelming. These kids have lived through the biggest heartbreaks and toughest times, yet they welcomed me with warm smiles and hugs."

I’m proud to serve as Ambassador for LEEDO’s work in Dhaka and Patron of Friends of Street Children Bangladesh. This cause is beyond football—it is about transforming lives.

As a Muslim, a father, and a Bangladeshi, I feel a strong responsibility to support vulnerable children. My visit to LEEDO showed me deep resilience, love, and hope.
