Frequently Asked Questions

What is LEEDO?

LEEDO (Local Education and Economic Development Organization) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization working to protect, educate, rehabilitate, and empower vulnerable and street-connected children and youth in Bangladesh.

LEEDO’s mission is to protect vulnerable children from street-based risks and help them move toward safety, education, family reintegration, rehabilitation, and a dignified future.

LEEDO primarily supports street-connected, vulnerable, disadvantaged, orphaned, and specially-abled children and youth who need protection, education, care, and opportunities for a better future.

LEEDO’s 4Rs Strategy consists of Rescue, Reintegrate, Refer, and Rebuild Lives. It provides a structured pathway to help children move from vulnerable situations toward safety, stability, and long-term development.

LEEDO’s outreach teams build trust with vulnerable children, assess their situation, provide immediate protection and support, and follow appropriate child protection and legal procedures before connecting them with shelter, family reintegration, or other services.

After rescue, a child may receive immediate food, clothing, healthcare, emotional support, and temporary shelter. LEEDO then works to trace and assess the family and determine whether safe family reintegration or referral to longer-term care is appropriate.

School Under the Sky is LEEDO’s non-formal education initiative that brings learning directly to street-connected children in public spaces. It focuses on basic literacy, numeracy, life skills, hygiene, health, and child-rights awareness.

LEEDO operates School Under the Sky at several locations in Dhaka, including Rayer Bazar Buddhijibi, Mirpur Mazar, Tejgaon Station, Airport Station, Kamalapur Station, Sadarghat Launch Terminal, and Shambazar.

Peace Home is LEEDO’s long-term rehabilitation center where children and youth can receive safe accommodation, education, healthcare, psychosocial support, life-skills development, vocational and ICT training, recreation, and other forms of care.

Peace Home provides long-term shelter, food, health and hygiene support, formal and inclusive education, ICT and vocational training, psychosocial support, recreational activities, cultural activities, and life-skills development.
